Keep in Touch
Over this past weekend, I got to see my high school basketball coach and it felt like I was sixteen all over again but instead of talking basketball we were discussing business and relationships. Seeing my coach made me realize how amazing a memory can quickly resurface and give you that childhood feeling all over again. I say this to express how important it is to keep in touch with people that have played a positive role in your life. Whether it’s an old fun babysitter or the cool algebra teacher that helped you understand exponents – keep in touch! Being able to rekindle relationships has taught me how much I value people and the life lessons I have learned along the way.
Although many of us all lead busy lives and have families of our own to take care of, it takes about three minutes to send a text or an email. Whenever I get a text from my coach it immediately puts a smile on my face, as the name “Coach” appears on my screen which brings me back to 2006, the year we became undefeated class A basketball champions (shout out to Worcester Academy). Because of this special connection I have maintained with my coach I have realized how important it is to reach out to others who have impacted my life journey. Even if it’s just to wish him or her well, or ask how their family is doing – take the time and keep in touch.
Furthermore, you never know how much a simple “Hello” can change someone’s day. I am grateful to share a special bond with my coach, and therefore, I can always count on her to be there and vice versa. As my fathers always says, “Make sure you know who’s around you,” and as usual I nod and say, “OK Dad,” but now I finally realize the importance of why my dad says that so often. My father only wants me to surround myself with people that supports me, loves me and has my best interest at heart. Unfortunately, there will be people around you that don’t have your best interests, and in that case, you must steer away. For the people you know that support you, who sees your full potential and are your biggest fans keep those people around at all times. Remind them how much they mean to you. Remember, keep in touch with the people who have left a positive shining imprint on your heart because you need those people around more than you know.
Oh and Coach, if you’re reading this know that I appreciate you for always keeping in touch and know that I am thankful for our special bond that we share. Thank You!
Xo, Blu
