WASHINGTON D.C.
In all my life, I have never been to Washington D.C. besides this one time for an AAU basketball tourny at American University. The more I think about it I've never traveled to a lot of places in the United States, yet I travel outside of the US often. Hmmmm... Well, after my trip to DC I'm going to have to change that and adventure in the USA. All I can say is, I love Washington D.C. and I can not wait to go back. I have so much to tell you I don't even know where to begin.
Ok- so I'll start with the reason why I traveled to DC. One random day last week my boyfriend gave me a call and said, "get something nice to wear, we are going to the White House." I instantly got off the phone and went straight to Neiman Marcus (true story). I found a beautiful dress and some gorgeous shoes. We traveled to DC to attend the annual White House Easter Egg Roll, how awesome! I was super excited, curious and yet anxious because I really didn't what to expect.
Anyhow, we traveled to D.C. Sunday morning and stayed at the most beautiful hotel, The Mandarin Oriental. When I say it was THE BEST HOTEL that we've stayed in, I mean it. We stayed in the presidential suite (it was ridiculous) and I can not even begin to tell you how spectactular the views were from our balcony (check out the views below). We could see the Thomas Jefferson National Monument and hundreds of the most gorgeous cherry blossom trees surrounding the lake. Also, the concierge at the Mandarin Oriental was the best concierge I've ever experienced. Honestly, if you have the budget and visit D.C., the Mandarin Oriental is the place to stay.
Next, it was time for a little adventure. First stop, the cherry blossoms! I could not stop taking pictures of all the breathtaking cherry blossom trees. The colors, the views, and the way the petals would float in the sky I immediately became obssesed. Walking through the cherry blossom wonderland is so magical and romantic. As you walk along the trail you can visit the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, which was pretty cool and the Martin Luther King monument which was my favorite. There are several other monuments along the trail as well, so you can engulf yourself in American history. Just make sure you have some comfortable walking shoes on. It's worth the trip!
Leaving the lake and cherry blossoms, we had to visit the prestige White House. You know it's funny, as a child you create an image in your head how the president's house looks, and funny enough it looked just like what I imagined. Beautiful white pilars, with long never eneding windows. To my knowledge, as a visitor we are viewing the White House from the back so we really didn't get the full affect of each wing. But the back of the White House was pretty amazing to finally see in real time.
Last but not least, we made it to the Lincoln Memorial as soon as night fell. The memorial was so eerie at night while lit but I loved it! I think this memorial of Lincoln is a must see. You have to see this monument up close to see how massive and detailed it really is, because pictures don't do it justice.
Finally, our night was over and I only saw a quarter of D.C. but I can not wait to go back and venture into this incredible city. D.C., I love you and I will see you soon.
